Who We Are

A Locally Rooted, Community-Led Organization

Somal Community Farm Group (SCFG) is a non-profit community-based organization established to improve the social and economic wellbeing of Somali pastoralist communities in Kenya.

Our organization was founded by community members who recognized the need for sustainable solutions to the recurring challenges affecting pastoral livelihoods. Unlike short-term emergency interventions, SCFG combines humanitarian response with long-term community development to create lasting impact.

Somali pastoralist communities contribute significantly to Kenya's economy through livestock production. However, these communities continue to experience recurring droughts, food insecurity, disease outbreaks, limited educational opportunities, and harmful traditional practices that hinder social and economic development.

SCFG was established to respond to these challenges through locally driven, community-centered solutions that respect culture while promoting human dignity, equality, and sustainable development.

We don't impose solutions from the outside. We start by listening to community elders, women's groups, and youth leaders. By putting the community in the driver's seat, we ensure every project is culturally appropriate and has local ownership.

Our Growth

Our Journey Through the Years

2005

Community Foundation

SCFG was established by community members in Wajir County, Kenya, driven by a vision to provide sustainable solutions for Somali pastoralist communities.

2010

Health & Education Outreach

Launched community health awareness campaigns and supported school enrolment for children in remote Somali pastoralist communities.

2015

Emergency Response & Food Security

Responded to severe drought with emergency food distribution and launched livestock recovery programs to help families rebuild their livelihoods.

2018

WASH & Livestock Recovery

Implemented water harvesting systems, sanitation facilities, and expanded livestock restocking programs for drought-affected households.

2021

Women Empowerment & Youth Development

Launched savings groups, entrepreneurship training, and youth vocational programs to create sustainable livelihoods and reduce poverty.

2026

Building Resilient Communities

Expanding our programs in climate adaptation, child protection, and community empowerment to build lasting resilience for Somali pastoralist communities.
